Resolved 2022

Mostly, I am not much for New Year’s resolutions. Having been a teacher-librarian for most of my adult life, the new year always seemed like the day after Labour Day, when school was back in. And at that point, I was waaay too busy with new books and schedules and committees to resolve anything other than getting through the day.

My classic January resolution always seemed to involve weight, or more particularly, the loss of weight. I was usually intent on losing 10 to 15 pounds, and basically, it was the same 10 to 15 I’d been referring to the previous year because I’d never lose it. A rousing good start with more walking or going to the gym and less chocolate for about a week, then the usual slide back to the norm. It’s good to have a routine, right?

But I do appreciate the opportunity to reset, even if it’s just a little nudge in a better direction. So this year I’m gently easing myself into more writing time. I’ve been retired for a couple of years so have had time to rest and do important things like waste hours looking up useless information online. I feel the time is ripe to get down to a little more serious bum-in-the-chair-to-produce-some-writing. (Really, if months of lockdown didn’t afford that opportunity, what will? But I’ll just ignore the half of my brain that is reminding me of that.)

So…more picture books! More submissions to publishers! More sitting in a chair so probably not losing any weight! Emoji
I do have a new picture book about Christmas coming out this year, just in time for Christmas 2022. So it’d be nice to get the next project lined up. Here I go!

Happy New Year to you all.
