Of Cats and Contests

Well, well, well.

I did not win that writing contest I described in my last post. In fact, after scrolling through a very long list of runners-up and runners-up to the runners-up, I had to concede that my name was nowhere on the list. Who knows? Maybe I was the only entrant not on one of those lists…

Then I remembered feeling a bit smug as I’d read the list of contest rules, before entering. Apparently there were entrants who, after not winning, would email to mention that their mother/brother/letter carrier/ferret had LOVED that story; had the jurors made some kind of error?? Luckily my computer died before I could hit the Send button on the angry email my cat dictated to me about my brilliant story.

Once I calmed the cat down, I read the winning story. It was very, very good. So I guess I need to be a grown-up and study the winning stories, take pointers, re-examine mine and prep for the next 24-hour contest.

Or not.

Meow.

Spring’s Gifts

Spring’s Gifts

Spring so far has been lots of rain, some time in the desert, some writing, and now… a new baby in the family!

The rain, we all know about.

The desert was an amazing time spent checking out the gorgeous canyons of Utah and Arizona. Here’s a photo in Antelope Canyon, where a Navajo tour guide took us deep into the canyon to admire the sandstone and tell us his people’s history there. (The desert was also a very nice break from the… you guessed it… rain!)
